I spent my Sunday night joyously listening to Aaron Axelsen hosted (and sometimes Dallas hosted) indie music show Soundcheck on the Bay’s Live 105, as I so often do. Despite multi-tasking to take care of many other things at the same time, I had to stop everything I was doing when Aaron dropped a gorgeous indie folk song on. Tall Heights, from Massachusetts, had me melting away to their contemplative song Spirit Cold, whose bittersweet sentiment and gentle ambiance reminded me of both Bon Iver and Bear’s Den. I was utterly overwhelmed by its cinematic beauty and stirring harmony, and I knew, I had to share Spirit Cold with you today, a song from the duo’s latest album, Holding On, Holding Out.
Please Don't Sink this Ship, I'm not Done Listening!!!
Check out the new cd “Face Yourself, And Remove Your Sandals” from the progressive indie band Small Leaks Sink Ships. They are a foursome straight from Portland Oregon bringing sounds so attentive and articulate to the table. Jim Mandel Jr., Judd Hancock, London Van Rooy, and Ryan Garner are the talent you hear when your listening to Small Leaks Sink Ships. They hearing a few tracks on their cd, I was comparing how alike each one is, they kind of all tie into one another. That shows profound distinction on their part for showing us that no other band can mimic their creation. In 2008 Ryan Garner and Rafael Macias came aboard to help evolve their sound into what it is presently. A series of bad luck had been cast on the band members but they overcome all of it and the silver lining of it all was al, of the unreleased material that they accumulated has become released more rapidly. They have Opened for Russian Circles, Phantogram at MMMFEST , Tera Melos, The Appleseed Cast, Piebald. I hoped to hear more from these four in the future. The Dear Hunter-Whisper
Anthemic indie with a prog-rock undertone. Reminds me, at times, of latter-era Hot Hot Heat and Vendetta Red with a multi-instrument flare.
Song Of The Day
Two Steps Twice - Foals
A song that builds its momentum beautifully with simple delay guitar pieces intermingling and compunding. All that with such an amazing recorded drum sound that makes my inner drummer smile in wonder.
