R.E.S.P.E.C.T.
Find out what it means to me, but me as in the grand Me. As in all of us. What does that word mean to you? Does it mean anything to you in the first place? I freaking hope so. I mean, if it doesn’t then I would say you are probably kind of a big jerk. Well regardless, here is what it means to Merriam-Webster’s dictionary...
1: a relation or reference to a particular thing or situation -remarks having respect to an earlier plan
2: an act of giving particular attention : CONSIDERATION
3a: high or special regard : ESTEEM
3b: the quality or state of being esteemed
3c: respects plural : expressions of high or special regard or deference -paid our respects
Let’s start this conversation out by talking in respect to the first part of this definition...ok, solid. Nailed that one. Let’s move on... Just kidding. We are going to use this time to pay respect to the way we think about our selves. Do we respect ourselves? That is the main topic for today. Now on to the second part of the definition.
Number 2 talks about giving particular attention to something. Showing consideration. Do you feel that you give particular attention to the parts of your life that need it? Do you take specific time out of your day to think about how you can improve the parts of your life that need improving? Do you give particular attention to your goals and dreams besides just dreaming about them? Do you break them down and plan them out so that they can become a reality? If the answer to these questions are no, then I am afraid you do not respect yourself as much as you may have thought.
This is not all bad news though. Now that you know, you can fix it. You can change the way you feel about yourself and for the better. Unfortunately, everyone has their own issues. We all have a past and have done things that we are not proud of. That is part of life. This does not warrant enough of a reason to not respect ourselves. You cannot hold It against yourself. You need to know that you deserve to respect yourself. You are worth it and you can achieve what ever it is that you want throughout this life, but it has to start with you. You need to learn to love yourself for who you are. If you do not love yourself, no one else will either.
Number 3. A, b and c. Do you hold yourself in high or special regard? How is your self-esteem? This ties in with what I was just blabbering about. If you do not love yourself, then no one else will either. If you do not respect yourself then why the hell would you waste any time showing yourself attention? Look at it from a different point of view. If there was someone that you did not respect, you surely would not go out of your way to give them particular attention. You wouldn’t waste your time trying to make them better. So why would it be any different toward yourself? Now ask yourself, do you hold yourself in high regard? Do you hold yourself in high esteem? Do you see yourself as special? Because if not, you need to start.
I am here to let you know that you are special. Just you being alive and on this planet makes you special. You, out of all those other little tiny swimmers that came out of your daddy’s wiener, were the only one to make it. You came in first for that race. So why stop there? Why not continue to keep coming in first in every other part of your life? Why not respect yourself enough to be more than average and give yourself the life you deserve, because you do deserve it. You just need to respect yourself.
This means being strict with yourself. Not staying up late for no reason. Doing that extra bit of work even though you are tired. Reading that extra chapter to learn more about your goals. Putting in that early morning workout as supposed to sleeping in. Passing up that piece of cake and that cookie when you are trying to lose weight. It all comes down to respect. Respect for yourself and respect for your goals. If you truly respect yourself, you will have a clear vision as to what you want and you will not let anything get in the way of that.
So. R.E.S.P.E.C.T. and fucking find out what it means to me. You deserve respect. Especially from yourself because your respect is the only one that matters. Become better.
