The Giant Greenish-Blue Dragon Mural — Kuantan, Malaysia
A three-story dragon coils around a spiral staircase, appearing to slither across the building’s surface. The detailed scales and vivid blues contrast with the black wall, giving this mural an almost cinematic presence. The mural is part of Project 06 at Kuantan Art Street in Pahang.
As I'm playing Sonic 06 in Japanese for the first time, I've picked up on an interesting theme I don't think I've ever seen anyone bring up when discussing the story; combined powers being greater than the sum of their parts. Multiple times throughout the game, two or more characters do something together and it causes their ability to increase exponentially. The most obvious examples are Sonic and Elise's combined power through the Energy Field, and when characters use Dual Chaos Control [or "Cross Chaos" as JonTron nicknamed it] to create a wormhole to travel through time and space.
This shows up in other ways too, with Amigo characters getting their own stage segments and entire stages in a series first. During Shadow's ending, Mephiles uses two Chaos Emeralds to amplify his shadow clone jutsu and completely fill the room with himself. But the theme comes back around when we go to Solaris. As the lore goes, the kingdom of Soleanna worshipped the god Solaris, with stonework scenes in Dusty Desert showing just how long they've done so.
But then, the duke of Soleanna decided to try utilizing their god for their own purposes. In a laboratory beneath the sea between the castle and the old town, the duke managed to capture Solaris, dividing its mind from its power, into Mephiles and Solaris.
Without the mind to control the power and with both filled with vengeance from being exploited by the people who once worshipped them, both ran free, destroying the facility. During the infamous Last Story, Mephiles then uses all seven Emeralds to re-merge with Iblis after it's released from Elise's soul, returning to their full and complete form of Solaris.
All the playable characters then work together to gather the scattered Emeralds and resurrect the mostly-dead Sonic, with Elise using the same power that the two used in Dusty Desert and Tropical Ju- yeah there's no sugarcoating the weird furry kiss. But it IS another instance of gathered sources of power being amplified beyond their individual limits. Thankfully, the final example is the final boss itself, with Sonic, Shadow, and Silver teaming up to defeat Solaris in the present, past, and future simultaneously.
Yet another example of this game being cool as fuck in concept but so hopelessly unfinished that none of its ideas could be fleshed out at all.
I love him and his stupid little vehicle sections
what effect do you think p06 will have on the overall legacy of 06, if any?
Part of me wonders if it will. I would definitely much rather play Project 06 than ever willingly boot up vanilla OG Sonic 06. And even though I know there are mods like Legacy of Solaris, to me that feels like doing things the hard way compared to just playing Project 06.
Because I think Sonic 06 is so broken, so unfinished, that it is absolutely faster, easier, and better to just straight up remake the entire game from scratch. It feels like so much effort to hack the Xbox version to become playable. Learning its file formats, learning how data is structured and how to decompile/insert new code...
It's like, getting a boat, learning how to disassemble the boat, fixing what's wrong with it using era-accurate materials, and then learning how to reassemble the boat... versus just building a new boat from better materials. You know?
Some people do that, of course. There's a whole industry of people who restore cars, and computers, and all kinds of stuff. But I dunno. If I am personally looking for a game I can play and enjoy, I'd rather pick P06.
And yet we still got the Sonic 06 recomp project (Marathon). The diehards would rather have the original game. People who care about Sonic 06 will probably treat P06 as something else entirely and still stay focused on the original game.
Feels like a waste of work, but if people have an itch they need to scratch, I'm not going to tell them to stop.
Third major Project '06 installment featuring Silver the Hedgehog out
Silver the Hedgehog's campaign in Project '06, a fan-led development of the 2006 multiplatform mainline title by Argentinan artist ChaosX, was released late Wednesday.
The third major installment came with the full release of Silver's campaign, as well as performance enhancements in Sonic the Hedgehog and Shadow the Hedgehog's trial campaigns.
The new release is a significant step forward for the fan-led project, beloved by fans for its efforts to revitalize the commercially unsuccessful title.
"It's been long overdue, with each release, the project continues to grow in almost every way. To say this release in specific was harder to work on than the last one would be an understatement, so from me and all who helped in this release, we hope you enjoy this new release!"
The installment coincided with the launch of Project '06's development nearly six years ago.
he really is the cutest and deadliest little bastard to walk the earth huh?
