Alright, so there was enough interest in the idea of events that I'd like to make a more official explanation of them so we can start next weekend!
In addition to the daily tasks, every week (starting on Sunday) there will be an event. Event submissions can be sent any time during the whole week, so there isn't as much rush. You can still submit for an event after it's completed, but it won't be on the submission count and may have less effect.
Every Sunday, the event will start and will be in the daily update. In addition to the list of tasks and checkmarks, there will be a description of the event. This description will include a short paragraph or two about what the event is and what's going on, then small list of response ideas and prompts.
Every Saturday, the event will end. Similarly to the event start, in the daily update there will be a paragraph or two concluding the event and a description of what happened. Along with the description, there will be a count of how many event submissions there were that week.
Similarly to task submissions, all event submissions will be reblogged (with the tag "#a1 event submission" among other things) and counted. However, if there is a week where there are no event submissions, A1 will not die. There may be negative story consequences, but A1 will not die.
The purpose of the events is to have some sort of ongoing bigger story so that the tasks don't get too repetitive. I may conclude the events differently depending on what kind of responses I get and how many, and how the events conclude can change future events somewhat. Events may not always end perfectly, but at the end of the day no event will end in A1's death.
If you would like, you can reference parts of the event in your task completion. If, say, the event had to do with monsters getting more dangerous, feel free to reference that fact in dungeon tasks and such. You by no means have to, but it's another option you have!
The first event will begin on Sunday Sep 27! (I already have an idea for one.)
I hope you enjoy the events! :)
Some last minute commentary before the first event starts:
You are encouraged to discuss and throw out ideas to the other parents on how to best respond to these scenarios! I will be reblogging commentary about the events along with the actual submissions. If many parents come to an agreement on an action they should do, then that action will have much more of an effect on the event plot than it would if just one person sent a submission performing that action. Cooperation is encouraged!
I would like to note that the events may often be negative in nature. Bad things will happen. Again, A1 will never die because of an event, and I do have some plans for more lighthearted events, but often an event will consist of something bad happening and A1 and the parents having to respond. Remember that daily tasks will always still be available for you to do quicker and more lighthearted submissions.
I will be using these events to, in part, push the limits on what we can do with this project. As such, I will be at times experimenting on the formatting of the events to see how interesting and fun we can make this project be. And while I hope all the experiments go well, there may be weeks where the events get too confusing or hard to complete as time goes on and we try out more things. I will be doing my best to make sure that doesn't happen too often, but if it does, please just be patient and give me time to reformat future events.
