So, clearly... I did not do this daily. But I felt like doing more of it today. So I did.
if you're confused, Project Oakview is a project wherein I build the Plains village of Oakview, in the actual game of Minecraft. I have a map I made here, and the first building, the tavern.
But for now, the second building is the painter's shop. I have no clue who the painter fully is at this point, but their shop is right next to the tavern!
Painter's Shop | Exterior
The small painter's shop is made mainly of oak; oak logs for a frame with oak walls, the planks placed vertically instead of the usual horizontal orientation. Contrasting the wood is stone bricks, as well as smoothed stone, warmed and sanded and smoothened down. In actual SoB, this would likely mean the smooth stone is darker than the normal stone, but alas.
The painter mainly does commissions for the rest of the village, but also sells powdered pigments to the general populace, as they are easier to carry around and store for longer than pre-made paint. It also gives the buyer a choice for what kind of bond they'd like to use for their paints.
Onto the interior:
Painter's Shop | Interior
A view from the doorway. To the left are paintings made by the painter. To the right is specially carved pedestals, each with jars of powdered paint pigments. In the back, you can see the painter's workspace, a green tinted skylight above it.
A clearer shot of the interior from the front right corner. The jars of powdered pigments are closer. A lantern hangs above the pedestals of the jars. Hanging near the door is a green tinted glass chime, which warns the painter of entering customers. Opposite to the workspace in the back is a reception's desk, with a small gold bell on it.
(As a note, I personally view the painting of the figure by the workspace to be a portrait of the local Archivist.)
A close-up of the painter's workspace. There is a blank canvas on an easel across from a wooden stool. The paint palette sits next to the easel on a normal oak plank crate. There are three drawers to the right, with buckets of green, red, and blue paint on top. Among them is a glass cup of water with more brushes.
The painter's skylight, requested specifically when they were building their shop. It is inlaid with ornate woven patterns around the rim, while the center of the skylight canonically is a large circle, in representation of The Great Abyss. You can see three small paintings on the wall that is behind the reception's counter.
(Warning for mild spoilers of the plot of Souls of Black concerning Oakview, and Alarik Crow.)
So it's currently Day 3 of Project Oakview, and I just finished it's first building about an hour ago. This building is the local tavern: Soul's Tavern, guaranteed to keep you energized all night.
This is the tavern that, when Reaper and her friends enter Oakview, they duck into to avoid crowds. Unfortunately, while they're going over their plan and goal for even being in Oakview, a local raid leader and his crew enter the tavern. The raid leader is known as Alarik Crow, and his raider crew the Sunset Crows, and they're all known for their power in the realm of raiding villages and travelers as they please.
Unfortunately for Reaper, Alarik poses two problems: one in the form of his set of diamond armor, the strongest set known to man; and the other in the fact that Reaper had fought the Sunset Crows just the night before, and the woman she'd killed in the battle is part of the crew with Alarik at this very moment.
Soul's Tavern | Exterior
Soul's Tavern is made of stone bricks, oak logs, and oak planks—common materials found in its home of the Plains Biome. It's walls are slightly cracked due to just how long the building has been standing. It's lanterns are made of iron and specially designed by the local blacksmith with crosses as detail in the sides. The tavern has two floors: the tavern and the inn. The owner of the tavern, Kellan, charges higher prices for the rooms, as outsiders are usually a point of suspicion and distrust for those in Oakview. The rooms themselves, unfortunately, aren't...the most high end. But it's either that, or he kicks you out.
Now that I hopefully have your interest, onto the interior! (Continued under the cut so this post isn't horribly long.)

Reaper and her friend's table. The seat with the iron blade is Reaper's, showing her untouched stew. A stack of iron coins lies in the corner.
The Sunset Crows' table. The seat with the diamond blade beside it is Alarik's.
The Bar
The bar kitchen, where meals are prepared, usually done as additionally entertainment for guests. In the back left corner is a wash bin with dirty plates and cups stacked next to it. Behind the counter in the floor is a trapdoor to the root cellar.
Bar seating, as well as where Kellan makes drinks for guests. More dirty utensils lie scattered, as well as left payment. There's a hatch for a door behind the counter. Behind the counter is a ladder leading to the second floor. On a shelf beside the beer barrels are ingredients and spices for drinks.
The instrumentalist stage. On it lies a guitar and banjo, as well as two percussion crates. Atop one of the percussion crates is a flute.
A window example. It, as the others on the first floor, have oaken shutters on the inside. There are thin logs detailing the stone bricks beneath the window, as well as an oak plank window sill on the inside of the building.

Back View
The root cellar is used to store vegetables and meat, overall ingredients for the meals that Soul's Tavern serves. Crates hold vegetables in some slots of the cellar, and those are used for times when they are instantly needed, and the cook can't afford to wait for The Black and it's time limit on drawing from reserves. Meat, however, is more commonly Stored in the chests here, as often it is raw, and rare, so the tavern keepers don't want to risk someone breaking into the cellar and taking it. If they do try, they'll have to wait the allotted heartbeats depending on the tier of the reserve they're attempting to steal from, and that will give the cook and Kellan time to catch them.
The cellar has the crops of wheat, carrots, beetroot, and onions, as all of those are commonly naturally found and grown in the Plains Biome.

2. Lobby Window
3. Rooms Hallway
The walls of the rooms, as well as some inset into the ceiling, are stripped oak logs, as well as intricately carved designs into the walls of the inn rooms. These were all done by the local woodworker, who I have yet to name. But, the idea is he loves carving wood and crafting with it very much, and does whatever he can to get his carvings into every building in the village (which is made easier by the fact that the village Archivist already exalts him for his skill). Kellan didn't care for the detail and designs, calling them unneeded and a waste of time and money, but the woodworker convinced him with a simple statement of:
"Prettier rooms with delicate carvings mean more time for your guests to stay in the inn! And that means more money for you, doesn't it, friend? As you have them pay by every third hour they stay?"
"...Maybe you have a point."
"Oh, wonderful!"
4. Room 1: Windowless
5. Room 2: Single Window (Identical to Room 3)
6. Room 4: Single Window, Rotated Room Orientation
Contrasting those lovely designs, though, Kellan was cheap with the actual interior of the inn rooms. Majority of them are rather small, and with simple white beds and curtains (if they even have windows). White dye is the most accessible color, so he can get it for pretty cheap. The lanterns are also made of copper, as opposed to the iron of the tavern's other lanterns. This is because copper is a pretty abundant resource too. So, again, he gets it for cheap.
7. Room 5: Two Beds, Windows, Dressers, and Chests. Made for two, and one of the more expensive rooms.
8. Room 6: Single Bed, Double Window, and Three Dressers. The most expensive room, as it is the largest Soul's Tavern has to offer.
9. A cleaning closet with a wash bin and empty barrel for trash, to later be burned outside. Behind the barrels is a shelf used to store other cleaning supplies like brushes and rags.
10. A rather small clerk's office, or perhaps even merely a discarded storage space. Here is where each inn guest is recorded in a book, as well as their payments due, and if those have been handled. This door is usually locked to guests.
11. The firepit behind the tavern, where unwanted things and trash are burned.
Annnd that's the tour of Soul's Tavern! I'm really excited to build more of the village and eventually finish this project :) Do let me know what you think!
So, recently I started a project, one that I'm calling Project Oakview. Why that is? Well, the project itself is my building of an important village from Souls of Black, named Oakview, into actual Minecraft.
In Souls of Black, Oakview is the first village that Reaper and her friends come across together, and it's also where we meet an important character named Alarik Crow :)
But I first had to draw out a map of the village itself, because I'd only had a vague idea of what was where for the story. But I'd need specifics to actually build it.
Days 0, 1 and 2 (as it's currently Day 3 of this project) were spent making said map. Why is there a Day 0? Well, I was visiting my partner, and only half working on the map during my last few days there lol.
Here is the original version of the map:
But as I started laying out the buildings in-game, I changed a few buildings, so here's a new drawing to match it:
Here's the actual layout in game :) (with the current first building done, as I made changes to the layout slightly after that was in progress/already finished O(∩_∩)O
The red wool marks important buildings. Pink wool marks normal homes. The green lines of wool are fences, and the white in the upper corner is the large farm that Oakview has.
I'll post pictures of the first building that was completed today in a different post, so look out for it! All posts about this project will be tagged #project oakview!
