Sonic kept projecting Tails onto Nine and it was inevitably gonna blow up in his face when Nine prioritized his own needs, when he was used to Tails who was the "never gets upset" and "ignores his issues for the mission" type of person.
Honestly it was so painful to watch their "bonding" scenes when you know Sonic is projecting it's just so cnfnfnxndn Especially all of Nine's little smiles from Sonic's affection... *head in hands* Only to realize Sonic wasn't really seeing him UGH
(He even called him Tails Nine... Sonic I'm gonna strangle you)
