WHY project brief

My original plan was to choose a question that interested me personally and to which I did not know the answer. But then I thought that if I focused on something too complicated, I might spend too much time trying to find and understand the answer itself.

I started by writing down all the random questions that crossed my mind. I wanted to go the funny route because I thought I had never explored humour in design and now was a good chance to do so, but at the same time I was afraid it would isolate me from other solutions.

Tiny Worlds Story Brief

This is the basics of the story for my Tiny World.

It starts with a man alone in his home, looking out the window he see’s that it is actually a nice day and decides to leave his house. He walks through trees and tall grass to get to a small pond. But when he gets there he see’s three men sitting on the bench, keeping a distance from each other. There’s no room for him to sit by the pond so he starts walking back, but decides under a tree is a nice place to be.

Part 5: Animatic 09.01.2020 4PM

Using the sound file and storyboard pictures create an animatic of your Graphic Novel. The final sequence will be between 1-2 minutes long. You must also include SFX.

1 x 1-2 minute long Quick Time Movie or AVI 1920 x 1080 compression H.264 at 25fps. All raw files must also be submitted.

Part 4: Layout & Presentation 09.01.2020 4PM

Your research should include elements of layout design. From these studies layout your pages that looks visually engaging and easily understood. Make sure all design material and fonts used are relevant to the content you are outputting.

Submit a PDF of your book and include all raw files.

Part 3: Storyboard 12.12.2019 4PM

Using the storyboard template on Blackboard, visualise narrative into pictures to tell your story. These pictures should demonstrate exactly which shots you intend to use. Each shot must contain a shot number, brief indication of the type of shot, any supporting instruction of action and dialogue. Samples are available for you to look at on Blackboard.

1 x PDF or a series of Jpegs containing the storyboard. All raw files must be submitted.

Part 2: Character & Environment Design 14.11.2019 4PM

You must produce full character sheets of all the character featured in your story. They must include a short character bio, plus turn arounds and an action pose. You can use a maximum of 2 sheets to explain a single character. You must also include all final environment art. 

Any development work will go into brief 2 as part of your development reflection. Remember to work in high resolution for printing (300dpi) with a minimum pixel resolution of A4. Final versions are to be exported as Jpegs. All raw files must be submitted with your final renders.

Part 1: Synopsis & Script 18.10.2019 4PM

This outlines the novel and tells us what it is all about. You are to write a synopsis of the world and what the show is all about that includes a brief introduction to the main characters. Maximum word count of 200. Using Celtx (free script writing software) type out your script for your story for a 30-50-page novel. 

You must write in script format a detailed description of what happens during each scene. You are not to use any camera instructions or shot references like swipe, zooms, close-ups etc at this time. Sample scripts are available on Blackboard for your convenience.
