Tiny Worlds Storytelling: Lighting Diagram - Image 1
I was trying to show a man out sailing on a sunny day, however on the day that I shot this it was dull and very dark so, I used as much of the natural light as I could, I lit the scene from above with my LED light on yellow to try to keep a warmth to the image and as that still wasn’t light enough I included a lamp shining towards the front of the scene just to give it that extra bit of brightness to show a summers day.
I used the Canon Eos 2000d borrowed from the college
Aperture - f4.5 to try to make the cotton wool look more like clouds in the sky and to give an impression that the other boats were further away
Shutter Speed - 1/13 I wanted to keep the ISO down low to avoid noise / grain so this meant that the shutter speed had to be slow
ISO - 100 to avoid noise / grain in the image
Focal Length 34mm, this was as close as the camera would allow me to get and still focus.
Blue card for sky and cotton wool balls for clouds
Used facemasks (resuse) for the sea
Paper from notepad to make boats
Lego man (borrowed from niece’s partners family) - Lucius or Draco Malfoy I think so he’s called LD
Unfortunately, the software that I used doesn’t allow me to resize things so the window looks a lot bigger than it should and intrudes into the light at the backs space, but this is a close approximation of the lighting used for this image.
To begin LD goes sailing on a beautiful summers day, fresh air he thinks just the thing to blow the cobwebs away.......
