Prometheus Cave also known as Kumistavi Cave ( Georgia )
One giant cave, newly developed, still unspoiled #prometheuscave #kumistavi #kutaisi #georgia🇬🇪 #caucasus Came here mainly to relax, but gotta do some minimal sightseeing to make the trip worth. Gonna record a few logistic tips as what I found on the web seems outdated & not precise enough. After late breakfast, I headed out to search for a postcard as I saw that the post office is open til 2pm. I understand that Kutaisi is not yet filled with tourists, but it’s been rather difficult finding a place selling a single postcard in a place trying to attract outsiders. Luckily the tour information office which opened past noon had a small selection of photos not so capturing of scenics. Waited for half an hour in front of Kutaisi market, then I found the collectivo van number 30 was actually waiting on the opposite side, the west end of Red bridge. Took 15 minutes to Tskaltubo, where marshrutka #42 was waiting to take tourists to Kumistavi on a 10 minute ride. Cost, 1.20 & 2.00 laris respectively. After paying 20 GEL entrance to the Prometheus cave, & 30 minutes wait, an hour long tour began. The boat ride was unavailable due to heavy rain yesterday. The tour was somewhat okay. The guide gave guidelines in English, then let half of the group get ahead at each stop, followed by the Georgian half. As the cave was opened to public only 7 years ago, we were not so restricted as I often found in other natural sites. As it was the biggest cave I’ve ever been to, I found the rather inconvenient journey worth seeing this gigantic, natural wonder. The visitors here seem to be largely from Russia or somewhere else in Eastern Europe. Likely due to the recent devaluation, things here are amazingly cheap. Took out £50 upon arrival, and had hard time spending even half of it so far. I think one can actually get by on $30 per day budget for everything including accommodation. The weather was also very nice. Got much sunlight throughout the day, it was enjoyable seeing the locals come out, taking a stroll around turned down streets in the center. What makes even better is no one bothers with my recognizable presence, even no taxi drivers didn’t attempt to offer me a ride. (at პრომეთეს მღვიმე)
