Okay, I'm not sure what cave I've just crawled out of, but this is my first time reading/listening to AL Jackson. How on earth have I missed the talent that is this author? All I can say is this is an oversight that will be corrected because if everything else is even half as good as Milo and Tessa's story, I'm a fan for life. Seriously, I had to take a beat and just think about just how good this book is and try to sort my thoughts before even starting my review. Now, let me take a sec to explain that - I'm a note taker, so I jot down thoughts and feelings as I read or listen, then I refer back for anything I want to pass on. Not this time! I was so caught up that I didn't jot down a single note. Not one. And I could not stop listening.Enough about me; this is about Milo and Tessa, who are a terrific couple. Connor Crais and Samantha Brentmoor give voice to this pair, and I don't know if I've come across a better narrator choice for either character. Tessa is so full of life despite being knocked down more than her fair share. She's a bit all over the place, but it works for her, and Samantha Brentmoor captured everything Tessa is. Every nuance comes through perfectly. Then there's Connor Crais and Milo - OMG, there's Connor Crais and Milo! I could listen to Connor Crais read the dictionary, but I'd much rather hear more Milo. Every time Milo called Tessa Little Dove, I just melted. Milo is all tough guy who sometimes goes too far wrapped around a total sweetheart. And he has kids! I loved when Milo went all marshmallow-y with Tessa and his kids. And holy moly, when things got hot, I'm pretty sure there were flames. So, to sum it up, Promise Me Always is wonderfully written and superbly narrated. It's a brilliant combination of steamy romance, love and loss, friendship, found family, and finding the one who lets you be you. I can't imagine a better introduction to AL Jackson., and I can't wait to dive into more of her books.
