This was something he could get used to. Her touch; so comforting. Her presence alone made the demons run away. She was a light that helped him through the darkness that he never knew he needed. There had always been something about Shayla that he liked. It wasn’t the drugs or the way she didn’t judge him like he was some kind of FREAK. She had her own monsters, a maze she weaved so perfectly to make herself seem like someone else. Elliot couldn’t wait to spend his time finding out more about her. Finding out the real her at the end of the maze.
A hand came to her shoulder as she deepened the kiss, pulling her in close where typically he would push a person away. He wanted her close. He wanted to feel her warmth pressed against him. There was so much he wanted from her and he was patient to see it all. This was excitement. True and real excitement. This wasn’t another hack at trying to figure someone else. This was what relationships were, weren’t they? The real life connection. It was like picking a lock only better. He could take his time, feel her real and there. He might have even considered the idea of LOVING her. Was that too soon to think? They’d known each other long enough. It wasn’t like they were strangers... but in a way they were.
If he had known this would be the last time he’d kiss her, he would have never broke it. If he knew this was the last time he would smell the shampoo in her hair or felt the way she fit perfectly to him he would have never let her go. He would have ran away in that moment with her to protect her forever... or maybe he would have ran away to save her. He didn’t know what was bound to happen. He couldn’t have ever known. And because of that reason he had to break the kiss. Give himself a moment to breathe the fresh air she brought to his lungs. A smile, true and genuine, grew across his lips as his hand slipped from her shoulder to brush the hair from her face.
❝Good luck at your new job. Call me when you get a chance?❞
