Trying again
We have a multi-tiered system of healthcare for the mentally ill in CA. I have private insurance and I don’t have trouble finding doctors and getting care. There are county services for the severely/progressively very poor mentally ill. These programs are understaffed and underfunded.
There are other people who fall through the cracks. They can’t afford insurance, or they have medicare and can’t find a doctor who will take it, or they can’t afford medication.
Prop 63 is not being utilized as well as it could. Innovation is nice. I love clubhouses and activities. But, the money should first be used to treat the severely mentally ill in programs that have been proven to work.
Housing is even a worse problem. There is very little emergency housing, especially for women/children with mental illness.
