Tabletop Quality: some years ago i found out it’s hard for me to paint to #propainter quality. My hands shake, and not in time with one another:) my eyesight, while keen is going, and up until recently anxiety kept me from wanting to learn or apply new techniques in fear of “wrecking” the model. Over the last five years, i’ve gotten help for some of my issues, but my hands still shake and i am still getting older. In talking with some friends we discussed “how close do you get to the model while playing anyway?” So we discussed “tabletop quality” or a quality of model painting that looks good from 3-6 feet away (about 1-2 meters or so). And so you can see the models i am painting and i feel they look good from arm’s length. You can see how they look close up. And while i may never win a painting competition, i have found in making peace with “tabletop quality “ as lessened some of my anxiety about my skill and allowed me to adopt painting schemes, tricks and techniques i forewent because of them nit rendering a “hero quality” model. Tabletop Quality is ok. I dont need to be perfect to play, and i dont need to be the best painter to enjoy the hobby. I see pro painters sometimes and get discouraged, but then I remember that isnt my goal. I am glad people are better at painting than i am. Their models look super cool! Mine are good enough for me. Good enough for the table and while i get better and refine my skills, where i am is just plain good enough.
