Cyrano props tour, stop 2: a delivery of wine, small food stuffs, and a galantine for a bunch of hungry cadets. Having looked up what an *actual* historical galantine would look like, we decided to fudge it a little and go for a meat pie instead of a tube of mixed meat bits wrapped up and tied in skin. I'm not saying I couldn't have sculpted that kind of a meat loaf-ish thing, but boy would it have been difficult to make that read as anything even a little recognizeable from stage. Instead, I got a really sweet unfinished salt dough pie from the angel propmaster at Austin Playhouse, and painted it to look perfectly done. Then I wrapped up a couple of wine bottles in burlap for safe travel by wagon, and filled a hamper with mostly store-bought fake foods, but also a half dozen poultry legs made from dowels, spray foam, and papier mache. (Yes, salt dough is my new favorite thing from this build. One of three charred skin cakes done for Euphoria. I was tasked with matching the burnt flesh on a set piece mannequin. It turned out morbidly beautiful! I love playing with edible airbrushing.

Edible, “fake” banana-scallion ice cream for Weird City. This held up extremely well in 100 degree summer heat. But alas, the director opted for the real ice cream option instead..in 100 degree heat. The struggle was real but the challenge was surmounted!
