“I’m gonna do it.”
Harry looks up intently. “Do what?”
“Propose to Remus.”
Harry stares. For a second, it doesn’t register. Then he wraps his head around the word propose, as in getting down on one knee with a ring kind of propose. But…how?
“Wait…you’re not married already?”
A small smile flickers on Sirius’ worried face. “No smartass. It’s just been legalised last year.”
“So?” Harry scoffs, lighting the last candle in the pumpkin. “You became an illegal Animagus, what’s an illegal marriage in that context?”
“God, you’re just like Lily,” Sirius complains, standing up. “No help in times of trouble.”
“Hey, at least you don't have to do it in that demonic old house of yours!" Although the smaller, sweeter house they rented definitely makes Sirius more comfortable, he still doesn't cheer up at the thought. Harry sighs. "What are you even worried about, it’s not like Moony can physically say no to you.”
“What if it’s too soon?” Sirius frets.
“Yes, because 20 years together is too soon.”
“Why do I even keep you in this house?”
“I am literally in your custody.”
“Boys, are you coming in or do I leave you out in the pumpkin patch for the rest of the night?” Remus hollers, sticking his head out of the window. “Get back inside for Merlin’s sake.”
“Coming Remus!” Harry shouts back. “Sirius, you have nothing to worry about. Come on, you’ve raised a kid together. Survived a war. Do yourself a favour and propose to the damn bloke. It’s about time.”
Sirius sighs, fiddling with something in his pocket. “You mind staying at Ron’s for an hour or two?”
Harry grins widely. “Thought you’d never ask.”
