It's time to end this now. 20 years we've been scrambling over each other's walls. Digging through the trenches. Still...we know so little. We are dying. Each day a little more. Our bodies show it. Our minds tire more easily now. Sleep, stealing our afternoons. Fear, driving us to our quiet corners where we can deny the inevitable. We joke about who will go first, who will last longer. What we really mean, is who will be left alone. Who do we become without the other? The fight has been good. The fight has been bloody. We have purged the demons, and purged again. We have earned our place. Proven our worth. The time is upon us where no more walls are needed. Having seen the best, the worst, the enemy no longer requires we hide in the trenches to survive. We have defeated them time and again, left now to struggle the memories, teasing like poltergeists, a bump in the night.
