If small businesses want to stay competitive against national chains, they need to adapt to the needs of their changing (ie Gentrifying) neighborhoods. Yes, people... Prospect Hills is gentrifying, whether you like it or not. More young professionals are moving in, they have jobs in the city and aren't going to wait until the owner of the hardware store decides he wants to roll out of bed and open up shop. They'll just buy elsewhere. Mom and pop stores are great and I want to support them...but having store hours of 11am to 5pm is lame. Fun fact: you actually have to be open in order to make money.
