TTS Flag Fridays: The Masterpost
Central: Geographic and political center of Tick-Tock Town. A hotpot of cultures and styles. Highly aristocratic.
Seaside: Port sector of the city. Split into thirds by two rivers and stitched together by eight bridges. A hard day’s sweat triumphs over industrial ease here.
Qerse: Largest of the eight districts and the most machine-infested. Factories dominate the skyline. An import center and home to various immigrating groups from around the celestial ring.
Prosperia: Beautiful and nature-grown. Home of in-city orchards and a native food supply. Largely carapacian, largely upper-to-middle class.
Alterneo: The troll side of town. A highly competitive market and a highly competitive citizenry at odds with each other. Labyrinthine streets and intimidating architecture swallow up the lost.
Emerald: The city’s entertainment hub and glittering home to local leprechauns. Tourist-friendly economically but tourist-unfriendly in geography. The wealthy elite colonize the coastline with seaside summer mansions.
Sburbia: Hotbed of magical power within the city. Large suburban sectors populated by humans, among others. Colleges have a home here, magical or otherwise.
Nocturne: A district tarnished before it had the chance to grow. Ruin and squalor pervade, though charitable hands have led to the downtrodden and aimless to settle here. The unexplained and the unfortunate have led to a new title and a cursed reputation.
Flag Fridays are officially wrapped up, and all that’s left is to finish up the City Map 1.0 of Tick-Tock Town. Tune in next week for that to go live.
This was fun! I have other ideas for weekly series coming up so stay tuned for news on those.
TTS Flag Fridays: The District of Prosperia
The flag of Prosperia is set against a field of sapphire blue, borrowed from the royal colors of Prospit. Around the edge of the flag is an interlocking chain of vines, a symbol of the Prospitian ideals of connectivity by nature, through nature, and with nature. The golden flowers are a local symbol, with four present to represent Prosperia being the fourth district to be formally established. The twenty petals present on the flowers are a celestial influence, linking the flag to the twenty planets of the greater planetary ring of the Verse. The national symbol of the seven-toothed cog, surrounded by flowers along the hoist,. is white like the shells of the district’s Prospitian natives.
In Tick-Tock Town's early history, the northern sector of the city was primarily staffed by carapacians. As the city grew and the population grew more mixed, the northern sector expanded further and further until it was an absolutely massive mega-district. When the city was divided into its modern districts this mega-district was split into three to better account for the change in population and the needs of those populations. The easternmost portion became the Dersite district, the center eventually became human-heavy district, and the westernmost became the district of Prosperia.
The Prospitians of the city have long since mirrored the ideals of their ancestral home of Prospit, the most pivotal of which is harmony with nature. Prosperia is a district where the buildings are overgrown with plant life and city parks are abundant. Several city projects undertaken by the district across its history have strived to break ground in integrating nature into the city surroundings, many of which still stand to this day. In-city orchards the size of city blocks glow like crystal castles, lamplight has been replaced by luminescent plant life in many areas, and so many buildings in the residential sectors are topped with greenhouses so the neighborhoods resemble a sea of shining scepters. In the wake of the Reconstruction, where projects digging underground had heavy restrictions placed upon them, these civic projects changed dramatically. Nowadays their focus is upon renovating, modernizing, and/or beautifying the older buildings of town to improve and make easier the lives of its citizens.
The architecture of Prosperia builds from the same tower-heavy base most of Tick-Tock Town started as, but with Prosperia being a more recent district you see more experimentation. Not just in how buildings are more polygonal in nature (as you approach the district's border with the Alternian district the buildings grow increasingly hexagonal) but in incorporating nature into the buildings. Both as add-ons to the exterior but in how the buildings themselves are built; columns intertwine around each other like vines, roofs flower outward like petals, sturdy branches that split off buildings to allow for birds to roost, and fountains run water in and around the towers. It's not uncommon to see streets paved with tile, either decorated lavishly with elaborate designs or laid out to form an elaborate design underneath the people's feet. As a result of its Prospitian roots Prosperia's buildings are decked out in a rich sapphire blue, and when light bounces off the crystal adornments onto the sea of tiles its gives the feeling of being underwater.Prosperia serves all types of folks, from upper-class to working-class, with the richer blood serving themselves in the winding streets of the aristocratic sector, closest to Central. Magicians and their ilk have less of a home here than in eastern Tick-Tock Town but magic still seeps into the workings of the district. The most visible clue to this is in the district's hefty population of free dolls, who flock here away from the much more restrictive Dersite district. So many free dolls are housed here, in fact, that Prosperia is rumored to be home to the Underhouse, a community of free dolls that protect runaway members of their population from sight and work tirelessly to improve their race's quality of life.
Highlights include the city orchards, where experiments on plant-life are performed to improve city conditions. The aristocratic neighborhoods are home to many historic older homes, including the mansion of industrialist Drozel Ursama and the mysterious manor of the demon-hunting Skalbis. In the northwest, towards the edge of the city, is a train station that leads out to the rest of the planet and tends to be where many visitors set their first step in Tick-Tick Town.
Notable Residents of Prosperia: The Ursama and Skalbi families, Stelsa Sezyat, Fozzer Velyes, Ardata Carmia.
