I woke up angry as hell this morning. For a lot of reasons. These are 5 of them. Juliana Nzita. Kyle Bassinga. Ashlee Jenae. Markavious Reumph. Kayla Huff. And before y’all start... No, I am not interested in arguing. No, I am not interested in being told to calm down. No, I am not interested in pretending this doesn’t impact me, my community, or the people I love. I am interested in Black children making it home. I am interested in Black families getting answers. I am interested in accountability. I am interested in truth. Because every time another Black child goes missing... Every time another Black body is found... Every time another family says something doesn’t make sense... People tell us to wait. People tell us we’re overreacting. People tell us we’re being emotional. And maybe we are emotional. Children are dying. Families are grieving. How the fuck else are we supposed to feel? The history of racial terror in this country is not ancient history. It is not something that happened “a long time ago.” It is woven into our communities, our families, our bodies, and the questions we ask when another young Black life is lost. Asking questions is not a conspiracy theory. Demanding transparency is not unreasonable. Wanting thorough investigations is not radical. And wanting Black children to live long enough to become Black elders shouldn’t be controversial. The last slide in this carousel is a post I made SIX YEARS AGO. Six. Years. And what hurts is realizing how much of it still applies. Different names. Different families. The same grief. The same fear. The same fight for answers. I wish that post had become irrelevant. Instead, here we are. So today I’m asking you to do three things: Pay attention. Ask questions. And remember their names.
