hmm there are surprisingly few complete fics/series with bbc merlin as the main ship. i could only find this one:

1. The Sins of the Father (Shall Not Be Visited Upon The Son)

Arthur’s silence was a garotte around Merlin's throat. He tried to brace himself. Finally, after a long, knife-edge moment, Arthur spoke up. “You’re a sorcerer, Merlin. My father has hunted your kind. You could have killed him at any time, and yet you stopped me from doing so. Why?” “I have no love for Uther, but I believe in you, and in the kingdom you will build.” “Why?” Arthur repeated. His hands wrapped around the iron bars of the cell. The easy response was destiny, but no prophecy could predict or encompass how deeply Merlin had come to regard Arthur. “Because you’re you.”

Or, instead of lying to Arthur in S2E08 “The Sins of the Father”, Merlin prevents him from killing Uther with his magic.

this is their latest fic, and i love it so much. their plot progression is just so good.

2. Captured and Claimed

"It seems Morgause made a slight miscalculation," Cenred murmured, his gaze raking Merlin up and down, and leaving the sensation of dirty claw marks across his skin. "Camelot's prince does fancy a servant, but it isn't Guinevere."

Or, Cenred discovers an unexpected weakness of Arthur's.

For once, Merlin had to agree.
