Graveyard Talks
“You are making a mistake thinking your opinion is relevant in this matter, Dean,” Castiel says, still holding Dean’s wrists, and now Dean feels trapped, by both the angel’s hands and the almost mesmerizing gaze of his blue eyes. “Your well-being is what matters, and I intend to keep you alive, with or without your consent.”
The concept of Castiel acting as Dean's guardian angel is a lovely one. This author put a bit of a different spin on it by having Dean reject Castiel's help completely. I think Dean's suspicion is in character, however, I also think his continued mistrust and lack of appreciation are not only a fault in character, but also simply a bit nonsensical. If Castiel is continuously saving and helping Dean and Sam, it seems unclear as to why Dean would be so determined to hate him. Besides that, however, there are some great Dean/Cas conversations in here, what with Castiel disappearing all the time. Dean's reluctant but eventual respect and concern for Castiel was a nice part of his character development, although as mentioned earlier, perhaps one that should have happened faster. The writing could be a bit heavy-handed, and sometimes the plot was a little typical or repetitive, however, this is still a good slightly angsty Destiel fic that accurately captures Castiel's belief in Dean, and Dean's guilt and conviction that he is a bad man. Although the Destiel at the emotional level could have been more developed, there was still something sweet about this fic that made it worth reading.
