As most of you know, my favorite uncle has has been in prison for 15 years now (Oct. 18th, will officially make it 15). We have a constant power struggle, seeing as though he went away when I was 12 and he was only about 24 (he thinks he can still tell me what to do). Growing up, it has def taken its toll on me mentally and psychologically and even now as a 27 year old woman. We had an intense convo (mostly me talking to him all hard) about allowing others to affect you to the point where it's mentally debilitating. He's in prison mentally, as well as physically and although he didn't do it, he must take responsibility for his decisions. You are the sole reason why you're in your current predicament and you must be able to detach (ah ha, 1 of my therapy words) from people and situations in order to look at it from a different perspective (from MY experience). I KNOW that this is a daily battle for MYSELF, but I face it head on and learn that I shouldn't allow others to affect my peace. I'm only 1 me, so I gotta protect this space that I'm in.
