ℒ ( for tinaaaa :>c )
It’s been a long time, Tina thought, since she’d talked to Newt. They wrote to each other, and they had spoken once or twice through the floo, when they had a few spare moments to chat (which was rare on her end). It was as much her fault as it was his- they were both busy, and Tina had never been good at not letting her work overtake everything else in her life. There’d always been a to-do list, and Tina spent her life crossing items off and adding more on in a never ending cycle.
She kept meaning to write to him, she really did, but once she had spilled coffee on a draft, another she had embarrassingly mixed in with some files at the office and gotten an odd look from Percival. Tina sighed. It was better when he was physically here. Going without seeing him a long time made her second guess everything. What if he just considered her an acquaintance, or a connection at MACUSA?
Tina tiredly hiked up the steps to her apartment, waving hello to her landlord, and when she closed the door behind her she leaned against it and closed her eyes, dropping her satchel to the floor. She’d worked over time tonight, the fifth time so far this month.
Queenie’s voice made her jump. Her sister was standing in her bedroom doorway, arms crossed, but not looking upset with her. She was more concerned than anything. “Teenie, you gotta stop working these late nights,” she said gently.
Tina pinched the bridge of her nose. “I know, but there’s just so much work to be done, and since the fiendfyre incident, we’re down three aurors, and …” she trailed off, waving her hand to allude to what she could not say. All she wanted was a quick drink and then to go to bed. She moved to the kitchen.
“Oh, by the way, this came for you tonight,” Queenie called after her. When Tina turned, her sister was holding out a slim piece of paper. A picture of a serene waterfall on a high mountain greeted her. Somewhat perplexed, Tina turned over the postcard.
Having a grand time in South America! I found a sanctuary for golden snidgets, they’re brilliant, and highly revered among the Brazilian wizards. Weather’s lovely, wish you were here. -Newt
Tina smiled. In the midst of everything, Newt was still able to make a warm, sort of hopeful feeling rise up inside her.
Queenie was grinning. “Oh, honey, I think you might be in love with him.” Tina blushed, but for the first time, she didn’t disagree with Queenie.
