dude this is how Nerds try to relate to people; in a subculture based entirely upon consumption of media and commodities, the easiest (and often the only) common ground searched for is which media/commodities have been mutually consumed by two people

yeah of course, and we're all guilty of it. i mean honestly half the reason i try to stay self aware and updated on certain subcultures is because i believe im an uninteresting/bland person who doesn't have much to offer that needs this external common ground to have a meaningful conversation lol
