My Proud list for 2012

Progress: Not a Dirty Word
Where were you a year ago? A different house, different city, different state of mind? Exactly a year ago I was most likely in my bed dreading the upcoming semester. I knew that I was about to let down my family and friends in way that I had never done before, and it was fucking terrifying. And though in some ways not a lot has changed, in other ways my life is totally different. So here I am in the same house, in the same city, except one thing I am in a totally different state of mind. For one thing I am excited to start the upcoming semester. And though my room is a complete mess, much like last year, I am slowly going through my things purging. I am changing in a way that I don’t think I could have fathomed a year ago. Do I still fuck up, a lot? Yep. On the other hand I have learned a lot too I have made progress. I bet that is a word you don’t hear often or even think about too much. But let me tell you it is an extremely important word and it is one that you should NEVER forget! How often do you evaluate your life now, and your life a year ago? How often do you sit down and say to yourself, “Look at how far I have come!” It seems silly to do so but think about it, if you are not aware of your progress, who will be? I am not saying that people don’t care about you, don’t see how much you have grown. The reality is that we are so caught up in our own lives we can forget to tell the people that we are proud of them, if their progress isn’t a huge and noticeable one. You have to be there to remind yourself that you are growing that your progress is important no matter how small. We are too hard on ourselves, I know I was, and ignoring how far you come can sometimes prevent you from moving forward. We get stuck on all the fuck ups that we over look the tiniest, and yet most important details. I am not saying you should commend every mistake you have ever made, but instead you should learn from it move on from it. Alright, I love to talk but lets put this in action. Take a minute, at the very least, and think about where you were and where you are. What has changed? What hasn’t? Is there more that you want to change? Don’t make resolutions! They are like diets! You are only dedicated as long as you have to be! Give your self the time and the means to change your lifestyle. Now make a list of things that you were proud of in 2012. I mean it. Write that shit down right now. Acknowledge how far you have come, and get excited for where you are going. Look at your progress and be proud!
Love always,
