Message of the Day: Respect And Obedience To Parents Beautify And Honor Life.
“My son, hear the instruction of your father. And do not forsake the law of your mother. For they will be a graceful ornament on your head, and chains about your neck.” (Proverbs 1:8-9, NKJV)
This is a typical introduction to an instruction speech in Proverbs, evoking a domestic situation of a father preparing his son for life in the world. Here the mother is also depicted as a teacher as in 6:20.

Fear, He is a Liar
Fear, He is a Liar
“Am I afraid of high notes? Of course I am afraid! What sane man is not?” ~ Luciano Pavarotti
Pay close attention, friend, to what your father tells you; never forget what you learned at your mother’s knee. Wear their counsel like flowers in your hair, like rings on your fingers. Dear friend, if bad companions tempt you, don’t go along with them. If they…

Honoring Age
Your mom and dad know far more than you may think they know. You say, “Well, I’m smarter than they are,” or “I have a better education.” That has nothing to do with it. Let me tell you where your mom and dad have it over you. They have lived longer than you have. David could say, “Once I was young, now I am old.” Children can’t say that. All they can say is, “I am young.” But an older person has…

Meditation: All Saints Day
Spiritual Parenthood
Today is a day that the church has traditionally celebrated the Saints, the backbone of the church. I personally do not ask the Saints for prayers. That is not a part of my religious background, and I am not sure I would know how to do it healthfully.
But I do believe in honoring the memories of the people who have built the Church. Without them, their theology, their miracles, their courage, our faith would be one of teachers and no parents. Saints are our spiritual ancestors. They reach from the eons to guide us. They stand as examples for spiritual life and for some can lend an ear when they are in need.
They deserve to be honored for their contributions.
My son, heed the discipline of your father, and do not abandon the teaching of your mother; they will be a garland to grace your head, a medal of honor for your neck.
-Proverbs 1:8-9
I remember reading some of the visions of Hildegard von Bingen for a project and being in awe. Here was a woman who had similar experiences as mine. Who not only had a flourishing spiritual life but also was may be an expert in the fields of science, medicine, music (and if she was not, she had the leadership skills necessary to encourage others to write books on the subjects.) She stands as an encouragement to me, a spiritual mother across the centuries.
Who are your spiritual mothers and fathers? Do you have the luxury of having them with you, or are they gone? Take some time to consider today how their knowledge graces your head, how their spiritual life now is an adornment for you. Thank them today to being a light to you.
How have you prepared your life to adorn someone else? Could you string the flowers along the wire or sew the pearls into the collar? How are you crafting your spirituality, not just for yourself, but to be a benefit to others? If you are not, now may be a time to consider doing so. Spiritual parenthood does not only extend to those you will touch in your lifetime, but extends to all you will touch after your death as well.
Parental Words of Wisdom
Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction, and don’t reject your mother’s teaching, for they will be a garland of grace on your head and a gold chain around your neck. -Proverbs 1:8-9 As teens, we tend to think that our parents don't know what they are talking about. We disregard their life experiences because we think they are outdated. The truth is that our parents know more than we know. When my parents tell me no because they have a bad feeling about something, something ends up happening that could've hurt me if they would've given me permission. When situations arise, the advice of parents is best even if we don't want to believe it. God gave us a mother and father for a reason. No matter how we got them, they are our parents and know what's best for us. It's time we start trusting and believing their words. It's time we listen to them and take their advice. Be blessed ❤️
