Mauser 1871
H.J. Hammer (Dec. 29, 1815 - 1882) was a Danish genre and history painter who trained at the Academy in Copenhagen, but had his career derailed a bit by a stint as officer in the Prussian War in 1848 - he stayed in the Army until 1860... By the late 1850s he began spending time in Italy and grew much more confident and successful as an artist. He died in Rome on his final trip and is buried there...
