Who look at this now with nostalgia?
it's 2017 and I'm still missing ps home...
Nebula Realms
Alright, so... Having had my PS5 for a few days now, I recently re-discovered an online community much like PS Home was. So for those of you who know what I mean, PS Home was one of the best things to happen to PS3 in terms of online community activities. Most of us were sad to see it go, despite its many issues.
However, new projects started popping up in its place. There are Atom Universe and Nebula Realms. I’d heard of both, but actually completely forgot about NR until I was researching some info about AU. When Nebula Realms popped up in one of the results, I immediately jumped into it.
Let me tell you, for those of you who want PS Home nostalgia, this is definitely it. It’s nothing like Atom Universe with its clogged up screens and messy menus. It’s a lot cleaner and much easier to manage and navigate. Its Nexus is very much reminiscent of Central Plaza, unlike Atom Universe’s Hub.
AU’s spaces are only barely active, and most of them aren’t even available. For those that are available, they’re okay. Some of the activities in the spaces don’t even work.
NR also has BOWLING. You all remember BOWLING in PS Home, right? I thought so! It even has Archery in one of its spaces, which I think is actually pretty neat.
A few caveats, however. It’s still a bit buggy. Some spaces force the avatar to slide instead of move normally. It takes a few seconds for you to be able to move properly again. Sometimes it can get stuck and you have to “force” your way out by moving around a bit.
As for the controls, it has the standard pitch controls—down is up and up is down. Unfortunately, there’s no Invert Control option, for those who prefer UP is UP and DOWN is DOWN. Maybe hopefully in the future they can implement that.
There’s also a status message option you can add to your avatar. Plus there are emojis you can use to indicate your “mood”.
You can also buy items to customize your avatar. The only way to do this, however, is to buy a ‘crystal pack’ as crystals are NR’s in-game currency. Though there are a few items you can use Nebula Points (not sure how those are earned, just kind of noticed that as I was going through things). As compared to AU’s in-game currency which are Atoms and Molecules. Atoms are basically ‘points’ while Molecules are required to purchase custom items.
Overall, it’s decent. Just needs some improvements and fixes.
So if you’re ever in the mood for some good ol’ PS Home nostalgia and aren’t doing much else, and you have a PS4 or PS5, you should definitely at least have a quick peek at Nebula Realms to check it out for yourself.
EDIT: Forgot to mention the apartment. It’s NEARLY IDENTICAL to the PS Home apartment. Except it’s EXPANDED. Multiple rooms and an upper level garden area.
Join me as I explore PlayStation Home during its final hours, visiting various spaces and partaking in different activities, and capturing the moment the servers shut down forever. Watch the video on YouTube for convenient chapter markers! I was going through old footage and discovered that I recorded and commentated the final hours of PlayStation Home back in 2015 and completely forgot about it!
I miss Playstation Home
