Fallout 4 PS4 mod “Freefall” and some random thoughts
After “six days” (about 144 saved hours) worth of gameplay content was ruined (which was more than half of my progress for a run that was a replay of my prior run because of a glitch that ruined almost all of the original run with that character), I elected to delete all of my save data and start fresh for my canon Brotherhood of Steel protagonist, Javier Ramirez (I’ll be working on my Railroad protagonist, Mako Kaneda, as well once I figure out how I will tackle a certain aspect of her story).
As I’m on the PS4, I decided to download the mod “Freefall”, which fixes bugs and restores lost content; it’s something of a “Director’s Cut” by mod author DeeZire that is exclusive to the PS4 because there is not quite as much on the PS4 as there is on the PC or X-Box (although there is a PC and X-Box counterpart of sorts known as Junkmaster as the two mod authors collaborated since they had some of the same aims). Maybe @chosenofyffre might do a counterpart to this since she has an X-Box.
I want to give thanks to @chosenofyffre since she was the one who encouraged me to try out mods in the first place (an unofficial patch for Skyrim is currently in the works for the PS4, which I’m looking forward to). I was also inspired by @rogue-lavellan and her character’s story to toy around with handling the DLC a certain way for Javier and Mako.
Given the limitations on the PS4, there is no custom assets or scripts involved; the aim is restoring content that was bugged from appearing (including Preston meeting a former Minutemen during a random encounter named Ben Gibson who can be persuaded to join the new Commonwealth Minutemen by the protagonist, and Preston has a nice line to Ben about his vision for the Minutemen - as an aside, while some mods basically turn the Minutemen into an iteration of the Brotherhood by giving them power armor, a fleet of vertibirds, and overpowered weaponry, I think what the Minutemen really needed was a more lengthy story and narrative, some new characters to fill certain roles (rather than relegating the guy who had trouble with a basic terminal to handle complicated Institute data), a more thoughtful way to infiltrate the Institute that requires some effort, and Preston’s idealistic vision hitting against the gritty reality of everyday folks from the wasteland who are flawed and imperfect.
I figured I would do a mix of sharing my main character’s story and addressing some of the content that the mod restores since I know the unofficial patch doesn’t focus on some of this content (things like P.A.M. initiating “Ignoring Agent Deacon Subroutine” during her tasking the player character to establish Mercer Safehouse at a designated area - if you’re curious, you can see some of the Deacon scenes from Freefall here, including that one).
Hopefully, some people will find this enjoyable. It was my birthday on Friday, but some plans fell through at the last minute (that day and today) so it hasn’t exactly been an optimal birthday weekend. If some people find this entertaining, that would be awesome.
