Something I truly dislike about group tours is the waste of an hour or more out of a tight schedule to "sample local food." In Arbanasi, a fascinating town, we were bussed to this outer suburban banquet hall, built about 2010, and served some quite ordinary Balkan food. A combination of my age and absence of Bulgarian language skills made a group tour in Bulgaria necessary, and we saw some interesting things, but the visit to this banquet hall was not among them.
