Oh my goodness! I didn't know you went to VCU! I picked my brother up from there today. I've been following you since I saw your amazing monstertalia stuff a while back. I'm actually trying to transfer into the communication arts major and my portfolio is due on the 15th of next month. any advice, senpai? ◝(●˙꒳˙●)◜

its hard to give concrete advice since so much of it is just based on showing your personality and what kind of stuff you're into, but i do recommend including your strongest examples of observational drawing. comm arts is BIG on traditional academic work and drawing from life, so try to include some really nice studies of people, objects, animals, etc. 

i remember i spent about 2 weeks in freshman year drawing a section of my dorm for my portfolio. i had roommates who were cool, but also messy, so there was a lot of stuff to draw! pick stuff that you find interesting. i feel like they mostly look to see whether you have technical skill and whether you're having fun - so have fun putting work together :D

I know! He even warned me to go slowly but due to circumstances I didn't account for I am now stinging in three places :/
