I'm thinking of writing an existential manifesto this weekend... Just a few pages... maybe it'll work itself out into something a little bit more, but there's a publisher that wants my work, so eh, I'll give it a shot.
I was considering the topic of meaninglessness in a transcendental view, and the human instinct to interact with said dilemma as a manner of pulling ourselves back into our roots. I read some of 'Transcendental Psychotherapy'. Yates goes on and on about how to "deal" with ego death, but all I see are methods of refuting it: Become a hedonist, create a goal in life, blah fucking blah. Maybe we're supposed to realize that we have no reason to live, and perhaps we're supposed to see that humanity is nothing but a virus/parasite of mother earth, because in reality, we're supposed to become that which our animal brethren has accomplished: be nothing and everything simultaneously. Be one. Imagine a world where there are no standards or societal norms and misconstrued morals. My professor said that I was on to something new and novel that she's never heard before... Interesting seeing that she has a Doctorate of Philosophy and is basically queen of this concept... Could I really posses an original idea? I feel like nothing is truly original...Whatever. She said my idea gave humans the freedom FROM, but she didn't understand the freedom TO. Perhaps the idea of being in one's place of zen is too difficult for us to understand today. We're just monsters bred from capitalism, who lack the capacity to understand that just existing is existence enough.... I get it. I feel it when I'm in my hoop, when I'm tanning at the beach, when I hiked through the forests with my boyfriend at Christmas. But, putting that feeling, that transcendent state into words... to articulate that sense of being... ugh, that's what is precisely the challenge.
I'm excited to explain, but I'm afraid they won't understand.
