They've come to live in each other's pockets. He brings her dinner after her long shifts, picks her up when she texts him that she doesn't feel safe to drive. She watches his kittens when he's gone, sleeps over when he's sustained a work related injury to keep an eye on him. Both keep spare sets of clothes and toiletries at each other's apartments. The nurses she works with like him, have come to know him as that nice Southern boy with the red and black eyes who can coax a smile out of her and it's not like she doesn't know any of Remy's work colleagues.
It seems to worry her more than it worries him. Cecelia's used to having things organized, settled into neat little boxes so that she knows what's going on. They're having one of those intense discussions that aren't quite fights but not exactly peaceful when it happens. "We've gone out befo', Cece," he gently points out to her.
She shakes her head, throwing her hands in the air. "This is different, Remy!" Suddenly, you could hear a pin drop in the room between the two of them. Cecelia stares at her wrist dumbfounded as her timer beeps, numbers set to 00:00:00. "How--" she starts, then abandons the thought she had as wordlessly, the Cajun holds up his own timer that's coming up all zeroes.
"Yeah," he says quietly, red and black eyes locked on hers. "Guess things are different."
She reaches for him then and he bends to meet her, her hands digging into the fabric of his shirt as his grip her sides. She tastes like hope, home, and promises, a new chapter in his life that he's all too ready to step into.
