«A little solider of the great Red Army once turned to our Lord by letter with a prayer for 10 rubles. The letter aroused great amusement in the staff where it was decided to send him 5 rubles - that would be enough - to see how he reacted. The answer came immediately: Thank you, dear Lord, for the money. But don't send it through the staff next time!»
- Why are you crying? - Well, I was so worried about what'll happen to them, but now I know that they ended up together!
“Black Cat on a Moonless Night” is so recognisable that at first I just assumed it was a Tove painting I’d seen before, but then realised it’s one of Tooti’s drawings of Psipsina on a background inspired by the cover art of The Moomins and the Great Flood :’)

Tove, 11 May 1965
Pipsu came back, shaggy and angry and not knowing who to hate or ask for comfort. Brunström has hurt himself, the construction isn't going well, and I'd like to add that Tooti is spoiling this cat ad absurdum! Now she's established herself in the tent with Ham and is covering the sheets with tar for all she's worth. Nothing on this island is going well right at the moment!

The damned cat has forgiven us, and all I can say is ha ha.
- Notes from an Island
Erna: What a big cat you have!
Tove: It’s gotten a little too fat.
Erna: (chuckles) Psipsu... How old is Psipsu now?
Tove: 12 years old.
