prompts — touches edition
“What’re you trying to say?”
Stiles let out a huff, turning in his seat until he was facing Perrie “I’m not saying anything.”
“Then what are you implying?” she asked, her eyebrows arching as she folded her arms and leaned them on the table top “Because you know I could keep up.”
“Perrie, he-”
“Shh,” she interrupted, raising her right hand and stopping Scott mid sentence “I wanna hear it from Stilinski,” she said, her gaze switching back to Stiles.
“You...you’re just...” Stiles paused for a second, his eyes nervously flickering across the table to Scott “You’re so tiny,” he said, looking proud of his save “It’s not that I think you aren’t capable I would...I’d be worried about you out there.”
There was a beat of silence before Perrie cleared her throat and spoke again “Bullshit,” she said with a shake of her head “You’re threatened.”
“Threat-”
“Threatened,” she insisted, a smug expression coming to her face as she settled back in her cafeteria seat and folded her arms over her stomach. Noticing Stiles exchange a confused glance with Scott she elaborated “You’re worried I’ll be better than you!” she exclaimed “I’m already faster.”
“You are not-don’t bring up that egg and spoon race Perrie,” Stiles said with a groan “We were ten.”
“And I’ve only gotten faster,” Perrie answered with a shrug of her shoulders “Come on,” she said, tapping the back of her hand against his shoulder as she pushed her chair back and got to her feet.
“Come on...where?” Stiles asked, glancing around the room.
“Get your stuff,” she insisted “And I’ll show you that I’ve watched lacrosse enough times to score a goal against you.”
“Scott-!”
Across from them Scott was shrugging his shoulders “Have you ever known Perrie to back down from a challenge?” he asked, picking his sandwich up off his plate before he too got to his feet “Come on Stiles. You know she won’t quit until you agree,” he said, the two boys turning to where Perrie was waiting for them with her arms crossed.
Stiles sighed “Fine.”
By the time they were making their way out to the field, Stiles reluctantly while a padded up Perrie waddled along beside him, the rest of their friends had gathered on the bleachers.
“Listen,” Stiles said, coming to a stop and stepping in front of Perrie. He smiled down to where she was peering up to him from the peak of his lacrosse helmet “I believe you. I believe you could kick my ass up and down this field...so how about we go back inside?”
Perrie’s eyes narrowed “I know what you’re doing,” she said with a tut “I know you hate being wrong Stiles but you’re not getting me to back down here.”
He raised his eyes to the sky “Perrie you’re just...really clumsy and if-”
“Really clumsy??” she repeated with a scoff “Coming from you? Go and get in the goal Stilinski.”
He let out a sigh, reaching across and straightening the helmet on her head before he turned and jogged over to stand in the middle of the goal “Okay Simmons,” he called to her “I’m ready!”
She nodded to herself, spinning the stick through her fingers a couple of times before dropping the ball into the net. The padding was a little big for her, making every step she took difficult, but her determination drove her on as she broke into a jog toward where Stiles was waiting for her in the goal.
A laugh burst from her as she caught sight of the worried look on his face, distracting her for a second as she drew the stick up to prepare for her throw. Raising it a little too quickly she jumped as the end of it bumped against the grill of the helmet, distracting herself from the mission at hand she felt the studs of her cleats get stuck in the mud beneath her...
“Ouch!”
“Perrie!” Stiles was at her side in an instant, his face peering into her eye line as she stared up to the sky “Are you okay?”
“I guess you were right,” she grumbled, her bottom lip jutting out “Can’t even make it onto the field.”
Stiles bit back a laugh as he offered her his hand “I know how difficult it is for you to admit that,” he said, his face as straight as he could make it “Are you hurt?”
She winced as he helped her up into a sitting position, tugging the helmet off her head “My ankle,” she pouted “I think I twisted it when my foot got stuck in the mud.”
He pursed his lips for a second as he took her in, her hair messed up and a defeated expression on her face “Come on,” he said as he helped her to her feet.
“Whoa, what’re you doing?” she asked, swatting his hands away as he moved to hook them beneath her knees.
“I’m carrying you,” he said as though it were the most obvious thing in the world.
“You can’t carry me.”
“Perrie you can’t walk!”
“Just let me lean on you, I’ll be fine,” she insisted, hooking her arm through his and turning to make her way over to where their friends were watching on and wondering if they needed to help. After one step she stopped “Okay, maybe not. Call Scott over here.”
“Scott??” Stiles asked, offended “Why Scott?”
“He’s...you know,” Perrie said, lowering her voice despite them being alone in the middle of the lacrosse field.
“So you trust Scott more than you trust me?”
“Yes,” Perrie answered shortly “When it comes to lifting me off the ground I trust the guy with the super human strength more than I trust you.”
Stiles’ eyebrows furrowed and his hand pressed against his heart “Perrie I am offended,” he said with a shake of his head “Come on, I’ll be fine, it’s only to the bleachers.”
“I’m heavy!”
“You’re not heavy,” Stiles said with a sigh as he bent to pick her up, letting out a noise of irritation as Perrie squirmed “Will you stay still!”
“Fine,” Perrie answered through gritted teeth “But if you drop me...”
“I’m not going to drop you,” Stiles said, bending slightly to hook his arm beneath her knees. Sweeping her up he raised his eyebrows down to her “See?”
“Sorry,” she said in a quiet tone as she lay her arm around his shoulders “I shouldn’t have-”
“Pez are you kidding? You were so adorable all dressed up in my lacrosse stuff,” Stiles cut through with a chuckle, a blush scattering along his pale cheekbones when he realised what he said.
“Thanks,” Perrie replied, smiling to herself as she settled against him and rested her head against his shoulder “I do really wish I hadn’t made such a big deal out of it all now though,” she continued, listening as Stiles’ chest vibrated with his laughter.
“You’ve drawn quite a crowd,” he said as they made their way over to where Scott, Tessa, Mel, Isaac, Lydia and Malia were waiting for them “Time to face the music!”
