Quiet scratches of quill on vellum fill the small room, a gentle staccato rhythm of secretarial tasks as common to the acolyte as birdsong or leaves rustling. Normal tasks, routine tasks, writing out the words just so, like the countless days before of writing these words on these pages, doing this important inscription labor.
As the time passes, however, his breathing starts claiming more of the space in the room, losing the steadiness and calm it normally has no issue finding. Instead it is uneven, distracting, out of the usual control of this acolyte. Because he was not used to having eyes on him as he worked, eyes that felt like hot rays of sun heating his back and shoulders, making his neck tingle lightly in a way that made him almost carve an inked error into the precious sheet of vellum. He shifted very slightly and tried to steady himself, to refocus on his task. The eyes of his distraction raked over him and his breath caught but his hand remained steady, even as the rest of him warmed in reaction to the silent attention he felt.
