Whatcha want?
The Shrike and The Guardsman
“You’re a guardsman.”
“And you are a child?”
Balen kept his gun lowered. The blood stained red haired grinning child still holding the arm of an astartes.
“Is that a Night Lords arm?”
“Yes.”
The child dropped it on the ground. Those were bite marks. “I know you.”
Did Balen know a cannibalistic psyker child?
“You do?”
Survival training dictated that he not speak to suspicious child. Yet Balen was almost positive the child meant him no harm.
And Balen was usually right about these things.
The child nodded. “You’re Balen Rise right? Janus’ friend.”
“You know Custodian Janus?”
Friend? Did they count as friends. Part of Balen hoped they did. The other part worried that was overstepping.
“Uh-huh, he’s my brother.”
Wait.
“Are you a custodian?” Balen blurted out.
Was the child like a kid custodian?
“No,” the child said. “I wish I was, custodians are cooler than Primarchs.”
Primarch…
Balen quickly started mentally going through everything he knew of Primarchs. Which was not a lot.
“Oh you wouldn’t know about me,” the child tapped his forehead when Balen looked down confused. “I got erased after I died.”
Somehow that wasn’t the strangest thing Balen ever heard.
“Does Custodian Janus know you’re eating Night Lords?”
“Probably,” the child blinked at him. “Do you like glitter?”
“What’s glitter?”
The child grinned. Revealing blood stained teeth but didn’t seem malicious. In fact Balen would wager the child seemed excited. Like children often are when they get to share something they love.
“I’ll show you!”
Seems Balen was right. The child took his hand and started dragging him off to places unknown.

Another trip into the past. This time with the first meeting of Balen and Psy.
These two are besties.
Janus couldn’t see out of his left eye. His head hurt, his hand involuntarily twitched. He couldn’t tell if the ringing was the sirens or from his ears.
He swallowed the blood pooling in his mouth. Helmet preventing him from spitting it out.
His ribs hurt.
Janus slammed his fist into his opponent’s face. They finally dropped, he dodged another blow.

Psy recoiled back.
Copper in his mouth. His ribs were hurting despite not having been hurt. He was drenched in blood and dust and mud.
He teleported out of the way of yet another nephew who seemed intent on killing him.
He reappeared somewhere unknown.
Still on Alsace.
The roar of a Khornate, a blade came down.
Ceasing the Khornate before it could reach Psy,
Ah my favorite little shrike.
Khorne’s voice echoed in his head. Having problems again?
Psy smacked at the connection between him and Khorne. He was nowhere strong enough to do something about the God.
But Khorne left easy enough.
His interest in Psy was always quick to wane.
Wrath had always been the more interesting toy.
Speaking of Wrath, he tilted his head at Psy. No words spoken.
Psy nodded and vanished before the next wave of Khornates.

Gives Psy mentos and coke.
Hehehehe… what if I mix it with the warp puddle?
Toll returned covered in blood and wearing different clothes.
‘Why didn’t you clean off the blood?’ Psy said. ‘You’re covered in it. Did you forget?’
‘What did I say about warp puddles?’
‘This is goo not puddle.’
‘My mistake,’ Toll said. ‘No more glitter in any form.’
‘I don’t see any glitter,’ Psy said. ‘Balen do you see glitter?’
‘None.’
Toll crossed his arms. ‘With you two there is always glitter. We failed at an intervention because of it remember?’
Yep.
Psy managed to get Valdor on their side and Balen convinced Janus that the intervention was unnecessary.
They then got Azar to fold. When he folded Toll followed.
Thankfully.
Otherwise they might have had to give up glitter.
‘We don’t talk about the intervention,’ Psy said. ‘Maybe you need one for your paranoia.’
‘And why am I like this?’
‘Venty?’
‘That is the official answer.’
‘What’s the unofficial?’ Balen said.
‘I was like this back in D’mt.’
‘When was that?’
‘Don’t age me.’
I’ll look in dad’s library when I get back to the palace.
Psy whispered in Balen’s mind.
‘You brought it up,’ Psy said aloud.
Toll’s eyes narrowed. ‘And what were you two just talking about?’
Come up with a lie.
Why does it have to be him?
Psy! You were supposed to be back… Balen!
Balen blinked as he comprehended the fluffy tiger cub in front of him.
Then it occurred to him how much danger he was in.
‘Hi Leo!’ Balen grinned. He had missed him but his ribs had been injured enough recently. Best let somebody else take the patented Leopard tackle.
‘Can you check on Toll? He exploded again.’
Leopards eyes widened. He whipped his body around.
Toll!
‘Fluffy one,’ Toll scooped Leopard up. ‘How have you been?’
Exhausted.
‘Me too.’
Leopard tackle prevented. Balen’s ribs safe.
The glitter bomb him and Psy had thrown into the warp puddle finally went off.
Erupting in a mess of liquid warp and sparkly blue glitter.
‘I thought it was a dud,’ Psy said.
‘Yeah,’ Balen said.
Pretty.
‘No glitter huh?’

I was totally going to yell at you two for the human sacrifices (no he was not) but I accept the bribe.
Psy looked between his two nephews. Looked up at the orange tinted sky, at the remnants of an explosion that happened ten thousand years ago.
He took a deep breath.
From time loop to this stupid planet forever paused in time.
‘Why are you too arguing about human sacrifices?’
Eberhard, the surprisingly socially aware for an Imperial Fist nephew shrugged and Evander, the oddly sweet Iron Warrior frowned at him.
‘Have you two been practicing human sacrifice?’
Silence.
Well it’s not like Psy could blame them. Bound to an unchanging planet for ten thousand years with mostly each other for company unless Psy or the rare ork showed up.
Incapable of dying because the warp kept rejecting it.
Honestly they probably should have gotten to human sacrifices earlier.
Wait where did they get the humans?
