Opinion on psychedelics - do you think they help, or cause mental health problems? :)

I think they can do both depending on a broad variety of personal and environmental factors, and that trying to reduce any mind altering substance to being inherently helpful or inherently harmful completely misses the point.

What do you mean by your problems with drugs are shaped by other patterns in your life? And have you ever tried LSD?

That I have problems with drugs because of my existing mental health issues and life/relationship troubles. Like it didn't become an issue in a vacuum. And no, I don't do psychedelics at all. As a schizophrenic, they don't interest me much, and even if they did, I'm not comfortable with the increased risk of it going wrong and triggering my existing mental health issues

I had this conversation with someone who wanted to convince me that doing shrooms is inherently safer than doing coke and it was all:

Them: Shrooms grow in nature!

Me: So does the coca plant though

Them: But the shroom high is over within just 24 hours!

Me: A line of coke will make you high for one hour at most unless you have a serious adverse reaction

Them: Shrooms are not a toxic chemical though, it's all natural!

Me: But it is far more likely to make you psychotic than a stimulant is, and I happen to be schizophrenic

Like dude, just consume your shrooms, but please shut up about the power of nature, you are not morally superior just because you get high on a plant that hasn't been through a chemical process

I haven't. Due to having schizophrenia, drugs that mainly induce psychotic experiences don't appeal to me, and I have never considered trying them worth the risks. But I hope you have fun!

it’s also just about simple size — stuff like fentanyl vs. morphine work by equivalency. so in the hospital a dose of fentanyl may technically be a lower number, like a microgram amount, but it’s on the same equivalency as a standard dose of 4mg of morphine. that’s why cops are full of shit claiming this small amount will kill most people, they give those in medicinal doses. it simply saves space for the higher level dealers trying to avoid law detection. if i can take 1/100th the weight of a dose of heroin, then i can get more into one space. it’s pretty good business sense, except when it finally gets to a customer who believed they were getting something else, and doses the incorrect weight. however true, addicts become increasingly aware of this and adjust accordingly — a common technique is to break off a piece of pill, and smoke it to test if it’s a pressed one or not. onset is faster, so you can judge faster if you really got oxy, or if you got fentanyl. of course another danger is the distribution is not even, the pressed pills can have “hot spots”.

most “fake acid” and stuff like that tends to be research chemicals that also work on serotonin to cause hallucinations, and “fake MDMA” just amphetamines. never heard of anyone dying from these or even experiencing psychosis in the case of amphetamines passed off as MDMA, because of several factors. sometimes it may be because they’ve never had the real thing, and can’t tell the difference, and these drugs don’t tend to be abused by non-addicts (the research chemicals no one really abuses in excess, but there are definitely people who enjoy trying them out, and documenting them. these same types of people also try out things like fentanyl analogs, they’re a great and helpful asset.)

so it is true it does largely depend on drug market, and who it’s being sold to. again a lot of this is very hard to prove in stats or numbers, since a lot of “data” we have isnt trustworthy, but it’s interesting there are websites that post samples that users send in to be tested. you’d be honest to god surprised at the stuff that’s put into products, and a lot of it on face value doesn’t seem like a great idea for business.

Different anon, sorry to be nosy Why is cocaine your drug of choice? /genq We're more attracted to weed and amphetamines, just genuine curiosity as to why it's your choice! /pos I have tried almost everything across the board so, it's interesting hearing other's opinions on their drug of choice. Not to like romanticize it or make it seem like good or anything, narcotic plants and drugs are just a special interest of ours-- but more like. What attracts you to the high that cocaine provides? Say, as opposed to Amphetamines or weed or something?

Well, weed is a downer, and I'm not into downers at all. I like for my drugs to make me faster and sharper and more energized, and while I wish I could just smoke a joint and be happy, as that would be a lot cheaper, the effect weed has on me just isn't enjoyable for me. And generally I stay clear of psychedelics, since I'm schizophrenic and uninterested in deliberately triggering psychotic experiences and risking my stability. (Regular stimulants have never triggered psychosis in me personally, though I'm aware that there's a level of general risk associated with those also.) I do tend to enjoy stimulants in general, amphetamines most definitely included, but drugs that slow you down or trigger psychosis-like experiences plain don't appeal to me. And for me cocaine has a very predictable, intense and short lived high that makes it easy to work with
