Kyoryuger Week Day 3 - Pteragordon / Pteraiden-Oh
Man, I had no expectations going into this toy, and boy did this thing impress. I got him pretty recently, and I really like him. It might be one of the best sixth Ranger or Q2 bots I’ve ever handled.
The Good: I mentioned this when I talked about Build Dai-Oh, but this guy takes the basic transformation scheme of “a robot doing the splits” and does so much to take that and make it feel like something incredible. How the arms transform, how the legs work, the fact that there’s only a single part that you need to detach (though I feel like a heavy single ratchet could have worked there. In fact I wonder if it detaching was for a combination idea the fell though), it’s a toy that feels great in your hands. It’s also got some great posability in its legs, having a tilting toe, multiple knee ratchets, and both forward/backward and outward hip movement. I feel like it beats out Shurikenjin for leg posability, though he can’t sit down.
The Bad: The evil face gimmick isn’t very good. In fact, in regards to Pteragordon’s face, it actually feels like it gets in the way more often than not. There’s also the Raiden combinations, which are boring. It’s just a flight pack with a funny hat. True, it’s the only combined head that uses Kyoryujin’s real face, but it takes forever to line everything up.
Overall, this is a great toy. If you like Kyoryuger, I’d say get it. If you love toys with good engineering, I’d say get it. It’s an excellent time.
