Sazima's Tarantula - Pterinopelma sazimai

This beautiful tarantula scientifically named Pterinopelma sazimai (Theraphosidae), was just described for science in 2011 from the Parque Nacional da Chapada Diamantina, Andaraí, Bahia, Brazil.

Among other features this spider is characterized by the presence of a blue iridescence on the setae covering the body. The carapace length is about 22 cm and 19 cm wide.
