I wish The Handmaid wasn’t so orientalist, the whole Japanese school girl thing + the fact she wears a qipao (Chinese) despite being primarily Japanese is soooo annoying to me

I drew her wearing a kimono, which is also silly but it’s more respectful I suppose

Japanese lesson —

The calligraphy she wrote is 貴様は死ね (kisama wa shine) which translates to a very hateful “Die” / “Die, you bastard”

貴様 is not a typical pronoun people use anymore, but it is a very rude and offensive way of saying you / bastard / son of a bitch

死 is just die, but 死ね is typically used as a swear word

So all in all, a very offensive and hateful message from our lovely Handmaid
