Unfortunately not very high quality, but here's k.d. during a soundcheck circa 1989 flaunting her figurative guns.
k.d. began playing piano at 7, took up guitar at 10, and began writing songs at 13. At 9 she had her first bike, a Yamaha 60 Mini-Enduro. In high school, she played basketball, and was ranked 8th nationally in the javelin throw. For a fleeting month or few she dreamed of being a roller derby queen.
In 1980 she went to Red Deer College to study music, but got involved in painting and performance art, highlighted by a twelve-hour enactment of a heart transplant, done with pickled vegetables.
