Rolling Stone Brazil, 27/04/2019,
[ARTICLE] MONSTA X: “Chile is a place that delivers a strong motivation to us”
Publimetro talked with the k-pop group a few days ahead of their next visit to our country on August 10th.
Monbebes will be celebrating soon: there’s only a few days left until MONSTA X return to Chile, on August 10th, at the Polideportivo Estadio Nacional (the tickets are sold by Puntoticket). During their previous visit, the group showed closeness with their local followers. They inclusively dressed up as “huasos” as a way of thanking the fans that welcomed them at a sold-out Movistar Arena on September 14th last year. “Chile is a place that delivers a strong motivation for us to work harder in our music”, says the group.
Ahead of their next visit to Chile, Publimetro talked with the boys of MONSTA X about the details of their show, their connection with our country and why the genre stopped being a phenomenon and became something global.
MONSTA X was formed, as a group, in 2015. How do you think your musical approach has evolved over the years?
Since the members are participating more in the albums, our musical quality has also improved. Jooheon and I.M have been participating in the creation of some of the songs’ raps since debut, but now they’re in charge of the raps for the entire album. Besides, Jooheon and Wonho enhanced the musical perfection of the album by writing their own songs. The more we contribute to the production, the more our quality improves, as well as the distinctive character of our album. Little by little we’re understanding what kind of music describes us and represents us best.
What changes took place in k-pop recently?
K-pop has changed a lot in the past few years. Not only in Korea and Asia: fans all over the world are recognising its charm. The artists of this genre are creating a large variety of attractive music based on their excellent abilities and good content. We’re very happy with the current phenomenon where k-pop artists have been getting closer with worldwide famous singers. We feel honoured to be one of the representative groups of the genre.
Nowadays, the genre is something global, but Chile was one of the first countries where this music began to find some popularity. What does this country mean to your careers and why do you think you’re popular here?
Even if it’s a bit far away from Korea, we always think that we should create more opportunities to meet the fans that support us and love us here. We believe that one of the main reasons why our fans love us is our powerful performances and productions. That makes people feel excited and pleased, which is another reason. We also think that our members overall have great physical attributes, which enhance our performances on stage. This could be another reason why our fans likes MONSTA X.
The group is returning to Chile for the second year in a row. What makes you choose this country as a destination on the tour?
The biggest reason why we’re coming back to Chile is because last year we were truly moved by our fans during the show. A lot of them welcomed us and cheered for us. Because we never forgot that, we’re coming back again this year. Besides, we hope to spend a good time and show our performance to our fans. If someone wants to see MONSTA X, we will go anywhere to show ourselves. This year is also going to be a lot of fun.
What do you like the most about Chile and Latin America?
One of the reasons is that the fans enjoy the show more than we do. The Latin American fans sing louder and even dance more expressively than us. Seeing that always makes us very happy and makes us think: “Ah, they really love us and were waiting for us”. Besides, we always wait for that moment and we’re thrilled every time we get up on stage with the thought that our fans enjoy our performances. It also happens that we can’t wait to enjoy every show with our fans. These are the reasons why the Latin American fans are great.
How is your relationship with the Chilean fans? Do you notice in the Internet that you have a lot of admirers here? Do you talk to them?
Of course. We’re aware of them. Our fans always send us their messages on social networks. We always try to read each one of their messages. It’s not easy because of the language, but we’re communicating well with the help of a lot of people, since the messages that come from their hearts are endearing and something for us to be thankful for. We’re also uploading a lot of photos and videos for our Chilean fans from far away to show them how we are. Through our own reality show “MONSTA X-RAY”, official channels and Naver V LIVE, we try to show a lot of fans different aspects of us with videos and special content.
What can we wait from the show that you’re bringing to Chile this year?
This year we have prepared a lot of performances that we haven’t showed on stage yet. We included songs from our latest album “THE CONNECT”, of course. As many of our fans already know, we’re preparing performances with units. Since it’s not common for us to present ourselves like that, we’re sure that everyone’s going to have a good time. While listening to our old songs, the fans will feel the biggest charm of MONSTA X. We have worked hard to prepare the best show for our fans. We hope that everybody enjoys it. We will see you soon.
