I literally don’t know how I got to this fic, because I’ve never read anything else in this pairing, but I’m glad I did. The characters are so realistic and believable, and this fic managed to make me like Chris Schistad a LOT without being out of character. It’s very well-written, and just the perfect length, not to mention not at all angsty and guaranteed to make you smile. I’d recommend checking this out even if you don’t ship it–it’s a harmless, sweet little gem of a find.

It’s the same Isak who does his own laundry, and cooks his own dinner, and calls his dad for money because Eskild’s empty threats of kicking him out are starting to get on his nerves. The same walking, talking Isak.

But now he kisses boys.

Published mid-season, just before the Pause clip aired, this fic focuses on what at that point seemed the most important antagonist to challenge Isak’s and Even’s relationship; Even already having a girlfriend. It focuses on Isak’s state of mind, while he’s getting to grips with his own sexuality and with which choice Even will make. Deliciously angsty and ambiguous.

In another universe Isak is a girl dressed in too many layers and her dirty blonde hair keeps spilling out of her pony tail.

In each universe, Isak and Even find each other.

First of all: the summary here is a little bit misleading--it’s actually not specifically a girl!Isak fic, and is really an exploration of possible alternate universes and how they met in each. It’s a selection of beautifully written vignettes, and each one leaves you wanting more... we could seriously read a 40k version of every single one of these universes. 

Long story short: if the girl!Isak tag has put you off, don’t let it, because this is a great read, and left us feeling super inspired imagining even more AUs of our own. The ending is also pretty damn perfect.

"I think that life's just like a movie, and that you can be the director of your own life. Do you get what I mean?"

The story is told mostly through Even referencing films or film techniques, and it’s quite masterfully done. It’s definitely not just for the film nerds, as you can understand where and how Even’s mind wanders without knowing the films referenced. It’s amazing how much the author manages to convey in so few words, this is a gorgeous look into how Even might try to get a grasp on his own thoughts and the world around him.

Author’s summary:

Isak shut the door right in their faces. ”Just a friend.” Fuck.

Taking place right after “Samme tid et helt annet sted”, the clip in which Isak wakes up alone after the boys’ Saturday in bed, this is a small glimpse into Isak’s mind that Sunday morning. A short, ever so slightly bittersweet and ever so slightly angsty read, translated into English by the author.

It’s not rated by the author, but we’d say it’s teen and up due to some swearing.
