Pubologi hits all the right notes
Now we're talking.
Finally a Gastropub dining experience that would fit in perfectly in NYC, London or Sydney and you don't have to break the bank to enjoy it. Pubologi in Gamla Stan stands out from a lot of Stockholm restaurants - it serves a series of small plates, quality beer in a small, communal room. Owned by the F12 group who control a number of fine restaurants in town.
Reservations are essential. The room is small and it's a popular table to be sure to book or risk getting left in the cold.
Pubologi serves 'half-plates', small tapas style portions. 2-3 per person should be sufficient depending on your hunger level. The menu changes often - my order included 3 small sausages, veal, ox and lamb. Served with the necessary condiments. They were all high-quality but the ox sausage rose above the rest. Also on our order was a black angus flank steak - cook to, melt in your mouth, perfection served alongside some corn and potato fondant.
The decor was simple yet unique for Stockholm. A communal table which you see fairly often in other cities but is virtually unheard of in Sweden. Unfortunately the groups sitting next to me barely made eye-contact aside from a quick welcome nod. More of this!
A finally a trip to Pubologi wouldn't be complete without a discussion of the beer selection. The have a rotating set of 8 beers on tap. Likely that you've never heard of any of them as they seemed to come from small breweries as far off as Iceland. A taster menu also exists.
Price-wise I'd say this is one of the better choices in Stockholm. Aside from the beer, which was expensive even for Stockholm, the food bill wasn't outrageous. We spent about 700sek for two people, including a few beers.
