Huddersfield Narrow Canal by Tony Via Flickr: The canal was first proposed in 1793, Construction began in 1794 with the marking out of the route. The practice was to set up a line of pegs or stakes about 50 yards (46 m) apart so that their tops would indicate the intended water level. It would then be possible to construct the appropriate embankments and cuttings. the canal finally opened in 1811, and operated for 140 years.

Bank Bottom Mill; Marsden by Tony Via Flickr: later known as Marsden Mill, was from 1824 an important centre for the production of woollen cloth in Marsden, West Yorkshire, England. Originally a fulling mill, Bank Bottom Mill reached its heyday in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Bank Bottom Mill closed in 2003.
