oh I see you stare spi-pi-pi-pi-pi-pi/spiraling up there & ho oh into the center of my brain & baby come baby go & free the hurricane ... & my heart starts pumping my fists start pumping upset total abandon you know I love you so #pattismith #pumpingmyheart _____________ this portrait from March 2017 fell on my 35th birthday during our honeymoon trip to Hawaii. a year ago I was too shy to post this so I forwarded the image like a giddy secret to mama nicole davis & she published it without my identity & with my comfort level safely in tact. by handing over this experience of my sexuality as a pumping mother I didnt have to own it. a lot changed this last year, hasnt it ladies? not so very much in actuality - but certainly in our awareness of that actuality. outlandish & obscene censorship of our feminine power rages on & what felt comfortable a year ago no longer fits: censorship of our menstruation, censorship of our sexuality, censorship of birth, censorship of breastfeeding, censorship of our natural aging: censorship of the feminine. today I am not the one who denies or hides our magical fucking powers - I bleed without dying, I touch myself to climax, I birthed my son after 37 - thirtyfuckingseven - hours of active labor without pain management, I breastfeed anywhere & everywhere, I love my crows feet my grey hair my stretch marks (despite being totally self-conscious about them).
