angel falls vs the senate is the work in progress name i use for the fic ‘don’t forget to add salt’ on ao3! i wrote this fic 100% for my own entertainment back in september 2020-ish; it’s on hiatus now, low priority on my list, since i have ‘look at me’ to deal with.

this fic is a modern w aliens star wars au featuring prequel era characters. angel falls and the senate are the names of two restaurants, one cosy and comfortable and small, run by padme, and the other posh, luxurious, expensive, elitist, etc, run by palpatine. there is mild conflict between them. it’s mostly funny stuff, with me exploring many character povs and world-building very, very casually. there is an order 66 that leads to food poisoning LOL except that’s exactly the ch that’s on hiatus rn

i can offer a snippet from the unpublished palpatine part hahaha 

The Senate's clientele adds to its charm (and pretentiousness, depending on whom you ask), mostly featuring politicians, local philanthropists, artists, and other celebrities with deep pockets. The stray simple citizen sometimes finds their way inside, perhaps looking to celebrate a special occasion after striking gold, and they always leave full of bittersweetness: the food is heavenly, almost spellbinding, but the prices are steep and ultimately, better tasted once and then treasured in a dream.

For decades, tirelessly, relentlessly, Sheev Palpatine has been cultivating the Senate's reputation through skill, political ingenuity, and lots and lots of social chess.

What is social chess, you might wonder?

That is Palpatine's favourite game to play and he is a true master of its art.

6. What element of writing do you find comes easily?

The easiest is making the outline for a story! I really enjoy writing down the steps in the characters’ journey, but from the 1 page outline to writing the ACTUAL story... that’s super difficult!

7. What element of writing do you struggle with most?

I struggle describing actions, movements, gestures, and sometimes emotions. I can describe a landscape well, but when it comes to smoothly portraying what two+ characters are doing during a conversation, I get blocked a lot. :( I start noticing how repetitive my sentence structure is, but find no good way to diversify it, and from that point on it turns into a headache. (Some days the writing flows better than others and I don’t notice this as much.)

10. What’s your favorite genre to write for?

Well, everything I write is ‘romance’. I’m always wearing my pink-tinted glasses of love. I really enjoy writing horror/psychological horror! I have a story I’m very casually writing for that falls under this category.

16. Any guilty pleasure trope(s)?

Hmm... I don’t know, I don’t think there’s anything that fits here. I’m definitely upfront about the tropes I enjoy, so no guilt there haha.

19. Do you prefer canon-compliant, AUs, or something in-between?

It’s important for me to write canon-compliant first for a pair, because that’s the way I understand their way of thinking the best! I have a LOT of fun with AUs. I’m tempted to pick ‘something in-between’ but canon-compliant still brings me the most satisfaction. It’s harder to do sometimes, but it feels so rewarding once you manage to insert your own idea into canon plot!

25. Have you ever daydreamed about side adventures/spin-offs from your fic? Tell us about them!

Kind of! I was thinking yesterday about a possible side ficlet I could write from Ada’s pov for look at me (with your eyes closed). Something after the end, that could slightly bridge it with the next part. Which leads me to—there’s also a sequel to look at me that I’m thinking of. It’s... very very simply defined right now, but it should happen at some point. Definitely not the size of look at me, though! As much as I love longfic, I don’t think I’d have what to work with for this idea for that long. If look at me is Boba vs his Mando issues, the sequel is Boba vs his Jedi issues.
