in regards to that post by tumblr user pumpkinqueene, while I agree that femininity does not equal beauty, I also think that it would out of character for Jasper to feel jealous of the other gem's appearance. If she felt strongly about anything regarding gem appearance, I feel like she would actually criticize small or lanky gems (Sapphire, Ruby, Pearl) for not being large and (in Jasper's mind) powerful like herself

how much control do you think the kindergarten engineers have over the appearance and attributes of quartzs? are they capable of intentionally creating quartzs who look and act a particular way, and who are designed for specific functions; or is it much more random, and their position dictated by whichever strengths and weaknesses they've demonstrated during training? or is it a combination of both- that, every so often, an anomaly will be born, and they'll have to decide what to do with them?

I have a feeling it might be a mix of two considering the Rubies and Jasper and Rose Quartz as well as Amethyst.

Like there are probably kindergarten areas where they’ve managed to produce a singular gem type for very specific functions (but even then flaws still pop up occasionally where whoops some earn independent thinking as well like Crystal Gem Ruby did or maybe even Amethyst who ended up a ‘runt’)

Then there are probably the more complex Jasper and Quartz types who were allowed their variety and to show their strength/importance and abilities they gained on the basis they obey Homeworld above all if they wish to keep their limited freedom of appearance and thinking. Even then at the core, I have a feeling certain things are still ingrained into some of them (like the urge to fight)

Hence comes up Jasper and Rose Quartz (now Steven) who I feel so strongly are likely VERY unique in their ways and I wonder if there are some other jaspers/quartzes like them because in real world those rocks come in so many shapes and colors, there can’t possibly be a uniform jasper or quartz. Rose who had healing powers and ended up rebelling against the Homeworld. And Jasper who put up an appearance to impress others when she first arrived and had definite opinions of her own considering certain things.

Those quartzes quite stand out so I believe it’d be really weird if so much other jaspers/quartzes were uniform in personality and appearance when that looks like to be not the case so far.

So Homeworld probably has its mix of raising gems for very specific roles and letting other types of gems be ‘born’ free form to see what they can bring to their culture.

we've all seen the damn leak where lapis is glaring daggers at peri, who is trying to befriend her. yet people still try to force this "jasper was the big abusive meanie, peri was powerless to stop her and was probably a victim too, and danced with lapis in her cell maybe uwu" shit. if there's one thing i'm hoping for, it's to find out that peri bears just as much responsibility for lapis being in that cell as jasper. 1/2

cont: and quite why everyone is so keen to push this “united in their hatred of jasper” shit is a mystery to me. peridot spoke of quartzs with admiration, but sneered and referred to lapis as “lazuli”. lapis clearly wants nothing to do with peridot in the leak. they hate each other. that will change in future, i’m certain. but, currently, they relationship is terrible. in fact, the only hw relationship which is anything like healthy is jaspidot, tbh.this smacks of that character bashing everyone used to do back in the day, because they perceived a character as a “threat” to their otp. i remember the flack sakura used to get in the naruto fandom. we’re talking about that kind of infantile behaviour. 3/3 (sorry about the long asks. i hate this trend)

So I’m completely with you 110% here. Peridot clearly has no established relationship with Lapis and was mostly likely was the one who turned the forcefield onto Lapis’s cell and locked her in there in the first place. She’s only ever referred to her as “Lazuli” or “my informant” in canon so far and, if we’re looking at the subtext of Log Date 7 15 2, she insists herself that the “Percy and Paulette” pairing makes no sense to her. (I have a whole tirade about this episode I’m sparing everyone from until another point in time) So people clinging onto this ship as wonderful and pure is making me go ?????? uhhh?? are we watching the same show?? I’m worried it boils down to simply “let’s ship the two small femme characters together and make Jasper the big, mean, abusive butch”. Really, people?? Is it too much to have slightly better taste?

For the record, I’m not shitting on Lapi/dot shippers, just the one’s who like to stereotype Jasper this way.

And after being dragged back to Earth and imprisoned on the ship, I’m pretty sure Lapis wants nothing to do with Peridot either. Her hate in that leaked clip is practically palatable. While I can’t predict what the future will be on this show, it’s not going to be the lovely-dovey insta-romance the fans insist on cooking up.

Sure, to me the Jaspidot pairing makes TOTAL SENSE, but I am shipping trash and nobody wants to hear me be a bigger dork than I already am. But while I can’t speak for Jasper’s feelings, Peridot has made it quite well known that she likes/admires/respects quartz gems and may or may not ship herself with a brute?? (welcome aboard the SS Subtext, we’re always grasping at straws here).

And to wrap this long winded rant up, I would like to out myself as an old, and oh boy, do I remember the earlier days of fandom with the garbage amounts of ship hate and character bashing in my old communities. I legitimately CAN’T STAND this kind of behavior. Grow up everyone. Seriously. Fandom should be a safe space for everyone. Let people ship what they want, but for fuck’s sake, don’t demonize a character just because she doesn’t fit in with your ship.
