#TopSwissStartups 99: PumpTire

With the recent installations of the Hubway bike sharing system, along with the long-standing popularity of bikes among students around town, Boston sees bikers on the road every day.

Enter: PumpTire, the #99 startup on the Top Swiss Startup list. PumpTire is innovating consumer bicycles so that bikers never have to fill up their tires or even check the pressure on their bikes. The Zurich-based startup is also working for bikes that can change tire pressure with a simple adjustment from the handlebars. Boston cyclers that decide to install PumpTire inner tubes and tires are bound to see more efficient, flexible, and reliable bike rides ahead.

Ingenioso invento, rueda de bicicleta que se infla sola.

Todos alguna vez nos hemos montado a una bicicleta, y alguna vez hemos tenido la necesidad de ir a un llantero a inflar las llantas, pues esto ya no es necesario, Pump Tire es la solución. El funcionamiento de este ingenioso sistema es muy sencillo, se trata de un acople a la propia válvula de la rueda en que se aloja un pequeño pistón que se mueve al ritmo del giro de la rueda, haciendo que esta se vaya inflando. Además dispone de una pequeña válvula de escape que permite que una vez inflada la rueda la bomba no siga introduciendo aire en la misma ya que podría hacerla explotar.

Actualmente este invento no está comercializado pero si llega a buen término existirán dos modelos de rueda. La City Cruiser for Casual Riders a un costo de $65, esta sería una rueda hibrida para las bicicletas de paseo, y la City Pro High Performance Tyre, una rueda profesional para bicicletas de carrera a un precio de $150.

Columbus Rides: PumpTire - Self Pressurising bicycle tire.

PumpTire is commercializing the first self-pressurizing bicycle tire. Imagine taking your bicycle out of the garage and never having to fill up the tires or even check the pressure. Or imagine yourself being able to change your tire pressure on-the-fly with a simple adjustment from the handlebars. PumpTire is developing both of these systems. The self-inflating, self-adjusting technology is incorporated directly into the tire and is compatible with current rims, making it a simple addition to any bicycle.
